A man in body armor, who falsely identified himself a police officer, broke into a west Houston home late Thursday where he was fatally shot by a man inside, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office. A second intruder, also wearing body armor, fled the scene, officials said.

Deputies arrived at 3200 Windmoor Drive at 11:21 p.m. Thursday and found a man dead on the floor in the home's entryway, according to ONSCENE.TV.

Inside the apartment, the female homeowner and her two adult sons explained they were home when the invasion happened, authorities said.

"They spoke to them and learned that two male suspects, both dressed in body armor, kicked in the front door identifying themselves as HPD," said Sgt. Sidney Miller. "They were both armed at which time there was gunfire exchanged between the two suspects and one of the sons of the homeowner."

The men were not HPD, Miller said.

He said that multiple shots were fired, and deputes recovered firearms at the scene. Officials did not disclose how many weapons, what type or whose they were.

Miller added that the second male in body armor may have also been shot. He was seen fleeing the area in a dark-colored Sedan.

"We do not believe that there is anything external involved," Miller said. "We believe that this house was particularly targeted."

The motive is unknown and it is currently under investigation, authorities said.
